Youth Gambling: Public Health Strategies for Gambling Education & Awareness - Responsible Gambling Awareness Week event
On Wed 16 May, RGAC and the Victorian Department of Justice jointly hostied a presentation by Jennifer Reynolds, Project Manager, Public Health Gaming Project, University of Toronto and Kim Charteris, General Manager, Provincial Programs YMCA Greater Toronto. They spoke about their research and experience with youth and gambling.

Responsible Gambling Poster Challenge
Click here to learn more about the “Responsible Gambling Poster Challenge”, an initiative of the International Student Peer Working Group - a group of international students recruited by Gambler's Help to help guide their international student project. The project is funded via the Victorian Department of Justice.


Submission on lottery products in pubs & clubs
The Victorian Government is calling for submissions from the Victorian community regarding allowing the sale of certain lottery products in hotels and clubs with a liquor licence. Submissions will be received until 28 May. Further information and the consultation paper are available on the Department of Justice website.

Gambling Legislation Amendment (Transition) Bill 2012
The first reading of the Bill occurred in the Legislative Assembly on April 17 2012. The Bill provides additional restrictions on types of cash dispensing facilities in venues after 16 August 2012. It also provides for arrangements concerning the running and maintenance of poker machines after that date. The Bill repeals sections of the Gambling Regulation Act 2003. The repeals relate to Ministerial direction powers concerning pokie caps and limits, and the obligation of the Commission to conduct at least 5 yearly reviews of regional caps and municipal limits.

We raised the concept of regulated ‘family friendly viewing times and venues’ in submissions to the Commonwealth Joint Select Committee inquiries into Interactive Gambling and Advertising and the Interactive Gambling and Broadcasting Amendment, as well as in other work, when no or less gambling advertising would be allowed.
